Is Curing Cancer A Long Shot
- Written by Keith Moore
As OGTV prepares for a launch of our national campaign entitled Black History is “ EveryDay" in Honor of STEM Diversity, we want to take a moment to salute a a mission, and a motive that defies political debates, and that unifies America, and signals to the Globe that the United States of America is focused on promoting a spirit of alliance, partnership and coalition building to Move the America forward, and rid our nation of Cancer. It was only 55 years ago that President John F Kennedy said "ask (All of America) "not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country".
Fifty five years later, the world is very different now. "For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe — the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God” John F Kennedy January 20, 1961.
Announced on January 12, 2016 In his final State of the Union address on Jan. 12, 2016, President Barack Obama echoed Vice President Joe Biden’s plea for a unified endeavor to cure cancer and announced the creation of a national cancer moonshot. And he declared Biden to be “in charge of Mission Control.” MD Anderson applauds President Obama’s commitment to support this collective fight to end cancer. Announced on January 12, 2016- Cancer MoonShot 2020 was announced with large pharma, biotech, major payer, fortune 50 companies, academia, and community oncologists to end cancer.
The urgency to make a final assault on cancer was brought to the nation’s attention when Biden announced in Oct. 2015 his intention to dedicate his time and effort to the fight against cancer. Soon after, MD Anderson’s leaders met with Biden to share with him what we have learned since the 2012 launch of MD Anderson’s Moon Shots Program — a singular, goal-oriented effort to dramatically reduce cancer mortality.
“This is the golden era of cancer research. Our team of world-leading cancer experts, along with many others in the field, continue to confer with Vice President Biden about the scope and potential of a national cancer moon shot,” said MD Anderson President Ronald DePinho, M.D.
MD Anderson has launched a comprehensive and ambitious effort called the Moon Shots Program. The goal is to dramatically reduce the incidence and mortality of cancer, so that the disease in all its forms is preventable, detectable, treatable and forgettable. The organization is soliciting support for their efforts to quickly fight cancer, to pursue new ideas, develop new tests, and treatments, and offer new hope to patients and their families. So, as we launch Black History Month is“EveryDay” and continue to pursuit to bring Precision Medicine and Big Data to a place of practical application especially for those underserved and under represented, OGTV invites you to join our national campaign to Honor STEM Diversity.
OGTV believes that the airing of this video, Cancer Moon Shot 2020 will convince our audience to join both our Black Hstory Month campaign. This profile ofCancer Moon Shot 2020 campaign and Black History is "EveryDay" In Honor of STEM Diversity is OGTV's commitement to advance a collaborative engagement and partnership model that supports good health, education, and genomic peronal medicine access for all people.
